Sometimes owners (or even car dealers) require a diagnosis and/or investigation to be carried out to determine if a BMW E63 E64 M6 has an engine knock or Conrod Bearing damage.

Why might you need a Conrod Bearing Inspection/Investigation Report?

You have heard about the BMW E63 E64 M6 S85 Conrod Bearing issue and would like your engine firstly checked to see if you have any wear issues with the Conrod Bearings before deciding whether or not to change them.

You have recently sold a BMW M6 to a customer and an engine problem has developed.
You need a professional and thorough report from a leading specialist in this field regarding a potential Conrod Bearing issue.



1. Basic investigation IF ENGINE HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM OR IS NOT RUNNING - £640 inc VAT.
(Includes the basic requirements for checking if Conrod Bearings have/are causing damage).
(Recommended if the engine is already 'knocking' or where engine damage is already expected and the engine is not likely to be used again - i.e no parts/oils will be replaced).
We will drain the engine oil.
We will drain the PAS Fluid System, support the Engine, disconnect all Front Suspension Arms, disconnect PAS pipes, remove the entire front Subframe, Steering Rack, remove Belt Tensioner Mounting, remove the Engine Sump, remove Oil & Vanos Pump Pick Up Pipes.
Then we'll remove all 10x Conrod Bearing Caps and check the Lower Conrod Bearings.
Then we'll check all 10x Crankshaft Journals for wear or damage.
Rebuild with your old Conrod Bearings
Rebuild with your old Conrod Bolts - NOTE: THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN OR USED AGAIN.
Rebuild with your old Sump gasket.
Rebuild with your old Oil Pump Suction Tube O-rings.
Rebuild with your old Engine Oil.
Rebuild with new PAS Seal Rings.
Rebuild with new PAS Fluid.
REMEMBER - THIS IS ONLY FOR VEHICLES WITH KNOWN DAMAGED ENGINES.
THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN OR USED AGAIN DUE TO OLD CONROD BOLTS FITTED.
THIS SERVICE IS PURELY FOR WHEN A PROFESSIONAL REPORT IS REQUIRED BUT YOU KNOW YOU WILL NEVER BE USING THIS ENGINE AGAIN (i.e IT NEEDS REBUILDING OR REPLACING).

2. Basic investigation IF ENGINE HAS NO KNOWN ISSUES OK AND IS STILL RUNNING - £965 inc VAT.
(Includes key requirements for checking Conrod Bearing and Crankshaft Journal condition).
(Ideal for vehicles which are working fine and need to be driven away again).
We will carry out these additional items on top of the '1. Basic investigation' list above:
Rebuild with new Genuine BMW Conrod Bolts (this is mandatory as they are stretch bolts).
Rebuild with new Genuine BMW Sump Gasket
Rebuild with new Genuine BMW Oil Filter Kit
Rebuild with new Genuine BMW Oil Pump Suction Tube O-rings
Rebuild with new Genuine BMW PAS Seal Rings
Rebuild with new Genuine BMW PAS Fluid
Rebuild with your original Engine Oil.
REMEMBER - THIS IS FOR VEHICLES WHICH ARE PERFECTLY WORKING AND WILL BE DRIVEN AWAY AND CARRIED ON IN USE ON THE ROAD AGAIN.

3. Comprehensive investigations - £1475 inc VAT.
(Includes factual data for analysis, and over 20x digital pictures).
(Ideal for disputes, warranty/finance companies, and even legal evidence).

We will carry out these additional items on top of the '2. Basic Investigations' lists above:
Take an Engine Oil Sample and send it away for analysis.
Remove all 20x individual Conrod Bearings.
Record their part numbers and general appearance.
Use Plastigauge to measure the clearance (oil gap) between the Conrod Bearing and Crankshaft Journal.
Record all measurements as well as other important data on an official Report for you.
Picture all 20x Conrod Bearings in their matched pairs.
Picture all 10x Crankshaft Journals with Plastigauge showing the clearances.
Rebuild with new Genuine Castrol Edge Supercar 10w60 M-Power Engine Oil x 10.5 Litres.
